Corps of Discovery Programs
The primary objective of ASL and the Corps of Discovery is to ignite a passion for STEM among students.
To do so, Corps of Discovery missions and programs utilize science fiction to help create engaging topic specific STEM educational experiences for students and public audiences.
Manned missions to the planets are impossible today, but ASL simulators represent futuristic research spacecraft. In an ASL simulator, students can easily imagine themselves traveling to those planets to study them first hand.
As a learning experience, having students read that Jupiter is a gas giant planet is not nearly as effective an experience as is flying to Jupiter, performing experiments from orbit and determining for themselves that Jupiter is a gas giant planet.
To make the learning experience even more engaging, Corps of Discovery programs present STEM activities in the context of a dramatic story. Story consequences and rewards provide students with critical reasons for learning STEM. They also offer students opportunities to become heroes in the story by successfully applying STEM skills.
Corps of Discovery’s activities and dramatic story presentations combine to create immersive, fun and memorable STEM learning experiences for students.
